Are You Awake, Aware or Asleep?

Awake Aware Asleep | Astrologer Dawn

You have to want to be awake more than you want to be asleep or aware!

Are you awake, aware or asleep? I guess if you were asleep you wouldn’t necessarily be reading this missive!!!

I am constantly aware of the benefits that I gain from Coaching my clients. Many of the topics I write about come directly from what I learn about my clients and where they are at in their own life process. As you read the following article, do not attach shame, blame and judgment to you and to where you are now. It’s one of the ways the Itty Bitty Shifty Committee (those negative voices in our head) keep you stuck. Just allow yourself to recognize the areas in which you are asleep, aware or awake.

Here’s some questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you know where you are asleep?
  • Are you aware of what changes needs to happen in specific areas of your life?
  • Have you been woken up and are working on making consistent change?

Just because you are asleep, aware or awake in one area of your life, does not mean you are asleep, aware or awake in other realms of your life. You can be a combination!

You might be awake around your physical health, yet asleep around the boundaries you need to set in personal relationships with others. You might be aware that a change needs to happen in your emotional health, and yet continue to be asleep and make excuses, give reasons and justifications for “why” you stay in toxic relationships.

To gain clarity around awake, aware and asleep, it would be useful to have some definitions. This will help you determine where you currently are in different aspects of your life.

Take a look at the list of words and sentences below and reflect on your personal and professional life:

Asleep – Unaware

  • Past or Future
  • The Itty Bitty Shifty Committee rules supreme
  • Illusion
  • Known
  • Excuses, reasons or justifications
  • In Fear
  • Uncomfortable
  • Numb
  • Lifeless
  • Disconnected from people, life and choices
  • Inability to set boundaries
  • Unconscious
  • Existing instead of living
  • Head/Ego/Mind power increases
  • Worrying
  • Stress
  • Drama

Aware

  • “Knowing” that change needs to happen, not sure what action to take.
  • “Feeling” something isn’t correct for you in your being, not sure what the “something” is.
  • Want to make changes in your heart, mind, body and soul and don’t know where to start.
  • An inner knowing that you uncomfortable in certain situations or with types of people and not sure what to do about that?
  • “Sensing” you are on the brink of an ah-ha moment and still sitting on the fence waiting for the ah-ha moment to happen.
  • That small, still voice that speaks only once is starting to get louder and you keep shutting it down.

Awake

  • Happiness
  • Conscious
  • Alert
  • The Unknown
  • Setting boundaries
  • Active participant in your life
  • Connected to people and life’s possibilities
  • Living in the here and now
  • Mindful
  • Intuition increases
  • Attentive
  • Creativity flourishes
  • Faith and belief you are going to be OK no matter what happens
  • Inner peace
  • Serenity
  • Intuitively knowing how to handle situations that used to baffle you!

Powerful transformation can shift you from asleep to awake such as a trauma, or being diagnosed with a life threatening illness. However, do you really want to wait for a car accident that takes the lives of those with whom you have a special bond or discover you have a year to live before awakening, making spiritual changes and taking action?

You have to have a willingness to be aware. A desire to be awake. A want to reconnect with who you are at your core. You need to be able to pay attention to the messages from the Universe. You need to give attention that that which will awaken you. Break away from the damage that has been done in your past. Be in alignment with people who are awake.

Meditation, hypnosis and a daily ritual of writing can help move you from asleep, through awareness to being awake.

The action you take when you are asleep is usually based on fear and appearing to solve immediate problems that will reoccur. For example, you have a bill due and do not currently have the money for that bill. You borrow $50 from a friend because of the fear you feel of your electric being cut off. This solves the immediate problem and yet doesn’t solve the underlying financial issues you may have. Now you have another bill. This pattern continues and depression, anxiety and worry sets in.

The action you take when you are awake is more fulfilling spiritually and moves you towards a higher place within your life. For example, you have a bill due and do not currently have the money for that bill. You contact the electric company and work out a plan where you can pay the bill the next week. You look through all of your contacts and see where you can make an extra $50 in that week. Dog walking, babysitting or some other activity or combination that will bring forth the monies needed. You then have a realization that you need to look at your underlying money issues and you make time to track the monies you are spending on a daily basis and setting up a Spending Plan for the next year. You meditate to release all fears around monies and make at least one of your New Moon wishes about attracting income. You spend time with people who have already aligned themselves with creating consistent income and learn from them.

It’s very challenging and feels like walking through molasses talking with people who are asleep and don’t know it. Much easier to talk with people who are awake and willing to take action.

Take Action

Set intention. The IBS Committee is hard at work getting you to listen to them and may tell you that it is too overwhelming to awaken. How do you counteract those words in your head? Break your life down into small chunks and work on them a little at a time. Get a timer and each day set it for 10 minutes and choose to spend time writing, meditating and processing what is going on in areas such as:

  • Intimate relationship with partner
  • Strong, close friendships
  • Family members
  • Career
  • Co-workers
  • Finances
  • Children
  • Learning
  • Physical Health
  • Other areas that are important to you

Once you have some clarity as to what is occurring in each of these areas, now take some time to write about what your ideal would be in each of those areas.

Lastly, compare what is going on in your life to what you would ideally like your life to look like. If there is a huge disparity, then you are probably aware and need to act to make changes. If you notice there is a huge gap between where you are now and where you want to be and you feel depressed and believe there is no hope of ever getting there, then you might be more asleep than you realize. If you notice the differences between where you are now and where you want to be and you are excited to take the action needed to make changes you are more than likely awake.
